Just west of Buena Vista, Ptarmigan Lake sits at the base of Jones Mountain up towards Cottonwood Pass. This is a popular destination for hikers and anglers alike, requiring a charming, 6.8-mile round-trip hike to the lake. Despite the pressure this lakes receives compared to others at this elevation (~12,300), the fishing for Cutthroat Trout here remains very good.
